Orthodontic treatment involves the controlled movement of teeth through the bone over a period of time. At our office we have successfully utilized the practice of minor tooth movement to transform our patient’s smiles without the use of traditional metal brackets and wires. During the initial comprehensive exam we can determine if a patient is a good candidate for minor orthodontic treatment. In some cases, the need for brackets and wires or even surgical intervention is required to obtain the desired results, in which case we would refer the patient to a specialist for their treatment. Otherwise, we can take impressions of the patient’s teeth and have our lab fabricate a prescribed removable appliance that will guide the teeth into the correct position. This process usually takes months, depending on the amount of movement required, and once the patient and dentist are satisfied with the new position, a retainer is made for the patient to wear at night.
