You will not find anyone better than Dr. Rich Burkholder and son-in-law Dr. Michael Cooley. Rich began practice in Seattle, Washington and came down here a few years ago to be with his parents. His office is unlike anything in Newport. He is reasonable, fun, extremely professional, very up-to-date on all new things, holds a very high standard, but does not charge astronomical prices like some. AMAZING OFFICE and even better care! Has raised three wonderful daughters. Amazing man/ family! Can't recommend him enough!
I started seeing Dr. Burkholder in the late 1980’s when he was practicing in Seattle. I was in my mid-40’s at the time and had several missing teeth. Dr. Burkholder did reconstructive work, including expertly installing three bridges. Dr. Burkholder is meticulous in his work and took great care to ensure there was a perfect color match between the bridges and my natural teeth. The bridges have been in place for about 15 years and have worked perfectly, with absolutely no problems. I continued to see Dr. Burkholder for more routine care until he moved to California. I miss his expert care and enthusiastically recommend him for all of your dental needs.
You will be hard pressed to find anyone who is as knowledgeable, professional, and skilled as Dr. Burkholder. He knows exactly what can be done, how to do it with the utmost skill, and in the most comfortable manner. I tell my family, friends, and colleagues that he is adept at building an office team of the kindest and gentlest assistants to serve with him. I am one of the pickiest people around when it comes to dental work, and Dr. Burkholder has been my one and only family dentist for over 10 years. After I relocated nearly two hours drive away, I have only seen him and his staff. I have brought my three children along during that entire time as well. One of my children, Grayson Smith, is an actor and you can find his beautiful smile splashed all over the internet! Beyond all this, he is a friendly, attentive, and kind man, who we know cares about us.
Dr. Burkholder has been my dentist for my whole life. His kind and calming demeanor have made it a pleasure to go to the dentist-not something most people can say. From Seattle to Southern California, I am so lucky that we are in the same area now so that my daughter will also get to have Dr. Burkholder as her first and only dentist.
Being from California, I began going to Dr. Burkholder in Seattle, where I would visit each year as a child and received dental care at the highest standard. He is so skilled, kind and friendly and has a great ability to work with children. His work laid the foundation for excellent dental care and I credit the fact that I have never gotten a cavity to his superb dental care and teaching. I had experienced several other dentists and none of them compare to the treatment and standards of Dr. Burkholder. He is highly skilled and is his passion for dentistry and his work shows through at each and every visit. I am so excited that Dr. Burkholder is now in Southern California so that I can begin going to him again for my dental care. I give my highest recommendation to Dr. Burkholder.
From the day I met Rich, he knew he wanted to be a dentist. The best way I can describe it is it was his passion. He worked hard to make it happen and he did. Rich became a dentist and his primary objectives were to make his patients feel comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. In addition, quality dental work was and is his ultimate goal. I had the pleasure to work with Dr. Burkholder as a dental Assistant and a receptionist and was pleased to see my friend run an efficient, honest, and responsible office, while always keeping his patient's needs first and foremost. His likeable personality also made it a pleasure to not only work for Dr. Burkholder, but be his patient as well. Since I have moved out of state I am not able to use his services, but if I lived closer, Dr. Burkholder would definitely be my dentist, and I would highly recommend him to be yours!
Dr. Burkholder has been my dentist for nearly 25 years. He has always delivered excellent dental services in a timely manner- which I truly appreciated as a working Mom. Rich assembled a professional staff that worked to make each dental encounter as comfortable as possible. I particularly appreciated his collaborative, conservative approach which educated me about my clinical care options and costs to help me make an informed decision. As a medical professional myself, I valued his commitment to stay abreast of new techniques and technology to offer his patients the highest standard of care. Besides getting top-notch routine dental care year after year, Rich provided me with a customized new set of upper porcelain crowns having had tetracycline stained teeth my entire life. His attention to detail on each and every tooth was extraordinary. The result was a natural looking set of teeth that changed my smile forever. He and his staff always went the extra mile to follow-up with concern after my appointments and went out of their way when unexpected dental issues would arise. The health care industry as a whole would be in much better shape with more satisfied patients if all providers ran their practices as efficiently with patient-centered care as Dr. Burkholder. I just wish he still operated his practice in Washington state.
Richard Burkholder has been my dentist for nearly 30 years in Washington state. Because of his excellent care and professionalism I have travelled up to an hour to see him in Seattle and Issaquah. Looks like now I will be flying to California!
I stumbled upon Dr. Burkholder when looking for a new dentist in the Sammamish, Washington area. As a retired military spouse, I have changed dentists frequently upon moving to new locations. I selected Dr. Burkholder for the convenient location of his practice and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was excellent, some of the best I have experienced. Over time, I noticed his mentoring and suspect that the staff increased their skills due to his ability to explain what he was doing and why. Dr. Burkholder is not only highly skilled, but also very gentle. He always explained why I needed a procedure and went to great lengths to show me images of my teeth that confirmed his explanation. In the five plus years that I used Dr Burkholder, I feel that I received excellent dental care and that he is a top-notch dentist. I would continue to use Dr. Burkholder, except that he has moved to California. We miss him and wish him and his family the very best.
You know how all the best in their industry love what they do ? Like all the great masters of art, music, finance, education etc… they love what they do and it shows in their work because of that love-that’s how I would describe Rich Burkholder in dentistry. Do not miss the opportunity to become a patient of one of the best dentist’s you will ever find.
I have known Dr. Burkholder for more than 30 years and he has been my dentist for more than 25 years. During that time, I have had normal fillings, crowns, gum-line grafts and root canals. Based on my experiences, he is an extraordinarily gifted dentist who always shows compassionate care for his patients. Dr. Burkholder listens and makes carefully considered recommendations. He also waited patiently until I was ready for the graft he had strongly recommended for years. In addition to his exemplary dental skills, Dr. Burkholder is a person of unquestioned integrity. In my opinion, one would be very hard pressed to find a more accomplished, skilled, and compassionate dentist.
I had the good fortune of working with Dr. Rich Burkholder as his hygienist for 18 yrs from 1982 to 2000 when he sold the practice. He started the practice from ground zero and I like to think we built the practice together. The original office consisted of only 2 chairs and later, 3 chairs, in a corner of Rich's brother's body building gym in downtown Seattle. It was a very unique and fun setting for a dental office. We were forced to move when the metro bus tunnel project took a good portion of the space. We went from 3 chairs to 6 and a few years later as the practice grew we added 2 more chairs for a total of 8. I can't speak highly enough of Rich as an employer, a friend and a dentist. One word that immediately comes to mind is integrity. You will never meet a person with more integrity, which I consider to be a very important trait in an employer, friend and dentist. As a dentist, his work is meticulous and he is gentle and compassionate. He values each patient individually and addresses their needs accordingly. Dentaphobics have always been one of his specialties. He has a way of making each person feel comfortable and at ease. I retired from the practice of dental hygiene in 2006 but my family and I continued to see Rich for all our dental care, even though his office was an hour's drive from our home, until his final move to California in 2012. "We miss him so much. Our visits to the dentist will never be the same."
Dr. Burkholder taught me that flossing and taking care of my teeth and gums is part of taking care of my heart, mind and soul. With Dr. Burkholder the cost of dentistry is always approached with the patient's best interest coming first. Rich has made an impact on my life and he is a dentist that is kind and gentle to all his patient's. Thanks Dr. Burkholder for being the dentist that is honest, talented at the art of dentistry and who cares about his patients as people.
Dr. Burkholder has been my dentist for more than 20 yrs. I have a phobia of dentists and dental procedures due an severe reaction I had to Novocaine when I was young and living in another state. Dr. Burkholder was extremely respectful of my fears and was able to use techniques and alternatives to Novocaine for any of my dental procedures. I trusted him, his staff and his excellence in dentistry so much that even when I lived in Germany for 5 years, I would come back to Seattle to him for my dental appointments. I still consider him my dentist and will travel to California if I need a dental procedure in the future.
I was sixteen years old, had a broken tooth, and didn't have insurance. I walked into a tiny room that was, oddly enough, located in the back of a hardcore bodybuilding gym I had recently joined, and there I met Dr. Burkholder - who brought me in and fixed me up. That was 30 years ago and in the time since Rich has become my dentist, briefly my employer, and always a friend! If you are reading this then you are very fortunate indeed. It means that you are considering Dr. Burkholder as your dentist and you simply could not make a better choice. There is much I could share to prove the point, but perhaps the story that follows would say it best. As a young man I decided to join the Marines and during that time, and as anyone that has ever served knows, I was poked, prodded, and examined! Having over the course of my enlistment no fewer than a dozen dental check ups there was one thing that occurred at every single visit, and no it wasn't an admonishment to floss - Rich had already drilled that into my head (hmmm, interesting way of putting that). Anyway, without exception every single dentist that I saw remarked at the amazing dental work that I had received. In fact, most said something like "wow, this is real artwork". In fact, one doctor asked if he could gather his colleagues just to show them what could be achieved, although he had never seen anything like it before! And my favorite was when one old doctor, who over the years has seen literally tens of thousands of patients from all over the country made similar comments to those above. I told him that when I get back home I'll let doctor Burkholder know that you think he is a real master of his craft. To which this dentist said "oh, you won't be able to do that". No, I exclaimed, "why not?" And he said, "because anyone that demands this level of perfection from himself will have gone mad!" It's a great pleasure for me to share these stories with you, because they are all true! And, the only thing that has changed with Rich, insofar as I can tell, is that after decades of practice he has only gotten better!
