Due to various factors such as food, beverages, previous trauma or systemic components, it is normal for teeth to experience some degree of staining, even for people who practice exceptional oral hygiene. Whether you are someone who wants to dramatically change your smile or you want to brighten your teeth before a special event, we have tooth whitening treatment options with tremendous, long-lasting results. If you are in a hurry to have this treatment done, we offer in-house bleaching that takes about an hour of chair time. If you are not in a hurry to see immediate results, we have a take-home kit that requires 5-10 days of treatment wearing full arch trays for about 30 minutes a day. Each treatment involves the same active ingredient. However, the primary differences between the one time in-house treatment and the take-home treatment are the concentration levels, the amount of time required, and the cost. Because the in-house application is very concentrated, professional application by your dentist is necessary to avoid causing sensitivity to the teeth and gingival tissues, while the take-home kit is applied simply by inserting the trays to cover the teeth. As mentioned previously, the cost for in-house treatment is greater than the take-home kits. Either way, the result of each treatment is usually the same. In some cases, a patient may come in with a single tooth that has been discolored due to past trauma. This discoloration is like a permanent bruise in the tooth, and can be treated by a method called internal bleaching. This involves performing root canal and then applying a bleaching treatment on the inside of the crown to return the tooth to normal color. Otherwise, the color of the tooth can be corrected at a higher cost by placing a crown or veneer restoration.
